When Miss Independence walked away
No time for love that came her way

Miss Independent, Kelly Clarkson

Sasha Phoebe Winters was born in Dallas, Texas, but her parents moved to Jacksonville, Florida when she was two years old when her mother decided she wanted a sea change. Though the contentedness of the family in Florida was short-lived after Sasha's mother was mugged during a walk on the beach late one night where she was stabbed and left for dead. Although she was found and rushed to hospital, she died the next day and left Sasha's father, Declan, a singler father of three year old Sasha and her four year old brother, Terrence. Declan did the best job he could, and luckily his neighbours and closest friends, the Greshams, who had a young family of their own, stepped in and helped him. In that sense, Terrence and Sasha grew up very close to the large Gresham brood, and being the same age as Greshams' son, Charlie, Sasha struck up a close friendship with him and they were in the same year at school right through to high school graduation.

Sasha knew since they were teens that Charlie was gay, so there was never any sort of romantic link there. She did, however, lose her virginity to Charlie's older brother, Jake, the Quarterback for the high school football team. That was only a fleeting thing too because Sasha was never willing to risk aceing her grades for the sake of dating. She wanted to be a journalist since she was in Middle School and she was determined to nail her career no matter what. She didn't let frivolous things get in her way and even ditched her own prom to spend an all-nighter studying instead. She knew how to have fun, but in moderation, but her lack of interest in guys or dating had people thinking she was a lesbian.

She wasn't, she just didn't want to waste her time on relationships that always seemed so doomed. Instead, she did her Masters of English at Yale and then did a Graduate Degree in Journalism at Columbia. Once qualified, she was snapped up by the New York Times, a job she travelled a lot for both in the USA and internationally. But the travel did get tiresome and she missed her family and friends. When a position opened up at FABULOUS magazine back in New York (where she now lived), owned by Paris and Genevieve Hart, she was gladly snapped it up when she was offered it, and started a great friendship with the siblings, and became almost inseparable with Gen (again, more lesbian rumours). The only time she wavered on her determination to not bother with relationships and just be a career girl was when Charlie met his future husband, Parker Stewart, an Olympic figure skater where it was a bit of love at first sight. Charlie and Parker made it look good, but still, no guy really seemed worth putting a go slow on her career to invest in a relationship with.

Now, she has worked her way to the top as one of FABULOUS's Editors. She works close with Paris and Gen, and adores her job. But it was a recent Facebook post by Parker that made Sasha really stop and think about things, and maybe she had an offer for the married couple they might find hard to refuse...
